Installation
Instructions
|
|
This kit is designed to convert your vehicles manual door
locks to power door locks. It will also work with a keyless entry /
alarm system and allow you to use remote access. Installation is basic but
does require some planning to make it go smooth. The below is a
guideline on how to plan and execute the installation into your
vehicle. You may have to make small alterations to the instructions
below to have the unit operate on your vehicle, but it should help you
get the general idea.

Planning
the Install
|
|
Before even attempting to begin the installation, you must
plan where components will mount and how the wiring will be ran. With
the driver side lower panel off, above your knees when sitting down,
locate a suitable location for mounting your module. The main module is
generally mounted to a wiring harness, support strap or attached to the
firewall. You then want to figure out how to run the wires from the
inside of the vehicle through the door boot and into the door. You then
want to remove your door panel and find a good spot to mount the
actuator. See mounting the actuator below. Make sure to test fit the
actuator before you begin to be sure there is no problems with your
wiring harness length. Once you locate suitable locations and routings
for your components, move on below to Mounting the Module.

Mounting
the Module
|
|
The control module is in essence the brain of the unit.
Take care to make sure the unit does not receive excessive amounts of
vibration and absolutely NO WATER. The unit CANNOT get wet!!! You can
mount the module in one of 2 fashions. You can use tie straps and mount
the module to a stiff wiring harness under the dash or tie strap it to
a dash support brace. Make sure the connection is secure and tight. Our
mounting recommendation is attaching to the either the firewall or kick
panel area using the screw provided. This will ensure the module will
never come loose and will not vibrate. Once the module is installed,
move on to The Wiring Harness below.

The
Wiring Harness
|
|
The wiring harness for the unit is pre-wired and
color-coded to the wires on the actuator. First plug the wiring harness
into the control module you have just mounted. Now begin to run the wires
through the locations you found when you were planning your
installation. The shorter side of the two 5 wire groups will run into
the driver’s door. The longer set will run under the dash and
into the passenger door. On 4 door kits, run the additional leads
either under the carpet or through the door sill area to the rear door
boots. On all the doors, run the wires to the spot you have picked out
to fit the actuator. Secure the rest of the wires to the door skin so
they will not get torn or frayed. Make sure no wires rest on any sharp
edges! There are 4 wires left once you have run the harness to the
doors. The colors are Red, Black, Brown and White. The red and black
are the power and ground leads. Connect the RED to 12Volts Constant (+12V)
and the BLACK to Chassis Ground
(-). The White and Brown wires are the keyless entry
inputs. More information is at the end under Keyless Entry.

Mounting
the Actuator / Motor
|
|
With your door panel removed, identify the spot you have
chosen to mount your actuator. You can either mount the actuator
directly to the door skin or you can mount the strap to the door skin
then the actuator to the strap. This is generally the most used method
as it allows you flexibility on making room for the door panel to go
back on. If using the strap, mount the strap across the void in the
door. Mount the actuator to the strap, inside the void. (See diagram 1)
Next loop the metal rod through the hole in the actuator and line it up
with the door lock/unlock rod in your door. (diagram 2) Using the
square metal clamp, connect the rod from the actuator to the rod on the
door. Make sure before you tighten them down the actuators position
matches the position of the lock on your vehicle. Ex... If your
actuator pushes to lock and pulls to unlock, be sure that the actuator
is all the way in and the door is unlocked before you make the
connection. (diagram 3) Once that is complete, test the motion of the
actuator. It should move smoothly with the motion of your vehicles door
lock. Now connect the wires from the harness color for color to the
wires on the actuator. That should be complete. Now test your
installation.

Testing
your Installation
|
|
1. Make sure the door panel fits properly before
beginning. Do all testing with the door panels installed.
2. With the doors closed, press the door lock on the vehicle to the
LOCK position. All of the doors should lock. Then move it to the unlock
position, all doors should unlock. This will work true on both front
doors. The rear doors (4 door only) will not operate any other door.

Troubleshooting
|
|
P: The unit does nothing once installed.
A: Check to
make sure you have connected your power (12V+) and ground (-) wires. Be
sure the 12volt connection is constant power and not switched.
P: When I lock the doors (or unlock) they
automatically unlock (or lock) right back.
A: This means
the actuator is positioned wrong on the door. One of your 5 wire
actuators is not lined up with the positioning of the other 5 wire
actuator. Is what you have to do is lessen the tension on the square
clamp and adjust the 2 actuators so they begin at the same position and
work smoothly with the vehicles locking function. Once you do, test
again.

Keyless
Entry
|
|
The power door lock kit supports keyless entry and alarm
system inputs. This will allow you to remotely lock and unlock your
doors. On the wiring harness, you should have a WHITE and BROWN wire
which connects to the driver’s actuator, you can locate them at
the plug. These are the lock and
unlock inputs which you connect your alarm / keyless entry unit to.
Our unit only accepts negative (-) inputs from your remote unit.
Connect your negative (-) lock wire from the keyless remote to the
white wire on the power lock kit. Then connect your negative (-) unlock
wire from the keyless remote to the brown wire on the power lock kit.
It should then operate from remote once you finish the installation of
that product. Note that different vehicles require the actuators to
move in a different direction.
If you find that your lock button is unlocking the doors and
visa versa, simply switch the lock and unlock wires on the brown and
white wires.
**NOTE** Always
isolate your lock kit and keyless remote installations. Install and
test each one at a time. Once you are confident each works as described,
connect the 2 together. This helps eliminate problematic variables.
